The „Against the Old“, with a question mark and with an exclamation mark is without aggression, but confrontation in dialogue. A nudging and pushing away to gain momentum for new constellations from a familiar environment. (Ellen Wagner)

Gegen die Alten?! (Against the Old?!) is the first exhibition on view at Galerie 3AP in Düsseldorf from February 12, 2022. The exhibition focuses on the relationship between body and space as well as the physicality of language as a landscape of ideas. On display are works by Darmstadt-based artist Willi Bucher (*1948) and Berlin-based architect and artist Felix Anatol Findeiß (*1986). Using painting, sculpture, photography, and video art, both artists raise questions about identity, age, or physical sensuality and alienation. Via various strategies, an approach to the body takes place via the representation and staging of identity, beauty and power. As „second nature“ and designed environment, architectural spaces form places of security and representation, of exclusion and isolation. In the connection between body and space, liminal states emerge between inside and outside, freedom and restriction. Simple sensuality, as well as large-scale laconism, can be found in Bucher’s and Findeiß’s work. Always in connection with a momentum of its own as well as the question of a traditional formal language; passed over or against the old?!
