Toni Meyer is drawn to big cities. As a silent participant, she allows herself to drift, to observe actors, temperatures, architectures, landmarks and edges, windows, street beauties, movement, psychograms, codes and dress codes in in a way how we tend to dream. She lets our thoughts go on journeys and, wandering through the city, digress until we come back to ourselves. From then on, we are left with the memory. We were there, whether we were really there or not. The artist makes us drift with her in the events. That we become her, also silent, companions in this urban mixture that sometimes comes across as decadent, sometimes precarious, sometimes brusque, sometimes familiar, sometimes neurotic, sometimes melancholic, sometimes ironic. The ongoing project, which she began in 2017, portrays major cities such as Tokyo, London, Frankfurt and Athens via photocollages.
