on view: Jacqueline Hen at Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum (Cologne)

News — 16.09.26

Jacqueline Hen’s immersive light and sound installation titled “One’s sunset is another one’s sunrise” is on display as part of the »return« exhibition at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne.

»return« explores questions of longing, belonging and fragmented memory after experiences of loss, displacement and dislocation. Bringing together international artists, the exhibition traces what violence, colonialism and war leave behind: gaps in archives, suppressed histories and memories that continue to live in bodies, landscapes and communities. But »return« does not only ask what has been lost. The works imagine new connections – to people, places and histories, to the environment and to possible futures. Memory and imagination open up new possibilities.

Based in Cologne, Jacqueline Hen is a light artist whose practice explores light, space and perception. Her large-scale performative installations transform architectural space through light, reflection, color and movement, creating immersive experiences in which perception becomes part of the work. Hen studied at the Berlin University of the Arts, where she was appointed Meisterschülerin of Gabi Schillig and Joachim Sauter, and at ArtCenter College of Design, Los Angeles. Her practice has been exhibited internationally, including in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, San Francisco and Paris. Selected distinctions include: the International Women in Light Art Collection;  the International Light Art Award in Unna (1st prize Light High).
