now open: Willi Bucher »servusparadies – wie geht’s?«

News 27.06.26

Willi Bucher (* 1948 in Bühl near Günzburg) has been working as a painter and video artist since 1980. Color and canvas play just as important a role as digitally controlled technology, which he discovered for himself at the age of over 50 and uses to create an interplay of the analog and the digital, of flow and pixel. His paintings and drawings are both abstract and figurative, often large format and printed with a digitally controlled grid. As a painter and video artist he looks back on numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad including New York, Washington or Shanghai.

The exhibition brings together key works from different phases of Bucher’s practice, tracing his sustained engagement with image, language, and medial overlay. At the centre is the diptych ‘servusparadies – wie geht’s?’ from the Sprachlandschaften series of the 1990s and 2000s. Here, Willi Bucher merges painting and print into layered surfaces in which language is no longer read but encountered as trace, rhythm, and pictorial structure. Between concrete poetry, figurative and non-figurative painting, image spaces emerge in which language itself becomes landscape.
