Nadjana Mohr’s practice examines systems of relation and power that do not reveal themselves directly but emerge through material, touch, and surface. Her works investigate how actions become inscribed, what traces they leave behind, and how materials respond to intervention. Rather than treating material as a passive support, Mohr understands it as an active participant in the work, one that resists, records, and shapes the conditions of its own transformation.
For »Scratch, love, let gravity win«, the artist works with tin, a metal that is at once soft and resistant. Its surface can be scratched and deformed with ease, yet it permanently retains every mark. This tension forms the point of departure for the exhibition. Vulnerability and resistance are not presented as opposing conditions but as qualities that depend upon one another. Every gesture alters the material without fully overcoming its inherent logic.
From this material inquiry, the exhibition expands toward broader social questions. For centuries, tin has been associated with mythological and occult beliefs. Mohr does not revisit these historical associations to reproduce them, but to consider their renewed relevance today. Amid ongoing crises, political polarization, the rise of right wing movements, and growing antifeminist tendencies, irrational structures of belief and contemporary forms of mystification have regained visibility. The cultural projections historically attached to the material become a framework for reflecting on how uncertainty is processed collectively and translated into new structures of belief.
The exhibition also includes a video work based on footage of public protests across different social and political contexts. The documentary recordings are abstracted to the point that figures, banners, and specific events dissolve into shimmering fields of color. Rather than depicting identifiable moments, the work foregrounds their visual and affective dynamics. It shifts attention from individual demonstrations toward recurring patterns of collective expression, revealing how social conflict continually shapes public space without being reducible to a single event.
WOHNUNG LAUXTERMANN

The exhibition takes place at Wohnung Lauxtermann, an exhibition and residency space founded by Aileen Treusch in 2023 at Fürstenwall 74 in Düsseldorf. Once a meeting place for a local resistance group during the Second World War, the historic apartment now brings together artistic production, exhibitions, and residencies within a shared spatial context. The close relationship between studio and exhibition space creates a setting in which the dialogue between work, material, and architecture can unfold directly. Since its founding, more than thirty artists have participated in exhibitions, residencies, and collaborative projects at Wohnung Lauxtermann. The current program places an increased emphasis on focused solo presentations that offer an in depth introduction to individual artistic practices. Following the exhibition by Sophie Esslinger, »Scratch, love, let gravity win« is the second presentation in this new series.
