now open: Julian Heuser „Suspension of Disbelief“

News 02.07.25

We’re excited to open Julian Heuser’s first solo show at Galerie 3AP in Düsseldorf. Suspension of disbelief brings together new paintings that blur the lines between perception, illusion, and emotional reality. Heuser’s work combines techniques from painting, collage, and drawing with the layered codes of comic books, sci-fi pulp (Perry Rhodan), and horror aesthetics. Vivid colors, cryptic symbols, and fantastical forms collide with personal and cultural projections of fear, grief, and transformation. The title refers to the media theory term “suspension of disbelief”: the conscious decision to accept the unreal as temporarily real. Heuser embraces this space of ambiguity where monsters appear, meaning dissolves, and surface becomes emotion. Heuser’s canvases don’t seek to explain –  they ask you to stay with the image, to feel your way through its ambiguity rather than resolve it. He has exhibited widely in Germany and Austria, with recent solo shows at Elektrohalle Rhomberg (Salzburg) and Galerie FILIALE (Frankfurt am Main). Suspension of disbelief marks his first collaboration with Galerie 3APand continues his exploration of perception, illusion, and the blurred boundary between constructed image and emotional truth. Curated by Aileen Treusch. With the kind courtesy of Filiale/Bärbel Grässlin.
