Artist Residency in Holzhausen: Contemporary Art Meets Rural Life
Lara Werth is currently participating in the „Mobile Atelier“ residency program by BBK Bayern, located in Holzhausen am Ammersee. Together with fellow artist Hanna Kuster, she works in a charming, ivy-covered cottage – known as the Malek-Haus – just a short walk from the lake. The residency runs until July 19 and invites both artistic exploration and community interaction.
Funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Arts and Sciences and the municipality of Utting, the project brings contemporary art into rural spaces. This year, the program is awarded to a duo – an exception that draws attention: 70 artist teams apply, and a jury selects Werth and Kuster for their vision and collaboration.
A graduate of the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and born in 1996, Lara Werth uses the residency not only to develop new work, but also to connect with local residents. She offers workshops and participates in creative exchange, staying true to the Mobile Atelier’s mission of building bridges between art and community.
The Malek-Haus, provided by the municipality, is a former artisan’s home set to become a community center in the future, says Mayor Florian Hoffmann. For now, it serves as a living space for art – nestled in a peaceful meadow where storks wander and the Ammersee glistens nearby.
