Paradise appears less as a place than as a fragile construct: a state between closeness, projection and loss, already containing its own disappearance.
At the centre of the exhibition is the diptych “servusparadies – wie geht’s?” from the Sprachlandschaften series of the 1990s and 2000s.
In these works, Willi Bucher combines painting and print into layered surfaces where language is not read but experienced as trace, rhythm and pictorial structure. Between concrete poetry, figurative and non-figurative painting, open image spaces emerge in which language turns into landscape.
Willi Bucher works at the intersection of painting, language and spatial practice. He is known for series such as the Sprachlandschaften and Farbthesen, as well as installation-based works like the Videocontainer and beboxx objects.
The exhibition brings together key bodies of work from different phases of Bucher’s practice and highlights his ongoing engagement with image, language and medial overlay. Works such as the yellow painting “Heroisch Hoffnungslos” and the video work “Putzkonzert” within the beboxx objects address movement, erasure and visibility. The act of wiping as a gesture between control, cleansing and disappearance.
